I have had the thrill and honor of playing with so many talented musicians over the past 15 years of traveling and leading worship.
First, I must talk about a guy named Kendall Combes. He is the lead guitarist for Charlie Hall, and has been for many years. Kendall was my first guitar player and taught me so many things about God, about playing guitar, and about leading worship. Trent Austin was one of my first drummers, and he is an incredible musician; he is now a worship leader at a church in my town and I think the world of him. Mike Walker may be one of the finest drummers and people I know; he drummed for me for 5-6 years and taught me so much about the back beat. I love his personality and heart, and he still drums for me some, plays with an amazing rock band, and he is a percussion teacher as well. Dave Shook played guitar for me for 3 years and that guy can sing and play so well. He is also a great songwriter. I miss his laugh, and I loved when he would talk about God -- his face would glow! Janet Hubbell, great bass player and songwriter, helped write the songs on “Home,” Wash over me,” “Bravo God,” and "Hope of all the earth.” I guess I have written more with Janet than with anyone, and I love watching people worship to the songs we hoped they would enjoy God with when we wrote them. Brad Bandy, great drummer and friend with a heart of gold, loves people and loves God. Dan Hamilton, played drums for Robbie Seay for 10 years, but played for me as well for 2-3 years. He really encouraged me to dream bigger and reach farther to be everything that God was calling me to be. Thanks Dan, you helped me believe more. Jeff Lee, great guitar player, vocalist and friend, we shared some great, great worship moments together. I love his hope for life with God! Robert Doland, incredible sound guy. I have had the pleasure of having him run full-time for me for about 6 years. Everything I know about sound, pretty much he has taught me. Cory White, I was so blessed to have this guy drum for me for 5 years. What a great drummer! He taught me so much about timing, and life. I am grateful Cory. Jason Lashley, played guitar for me for 3 years, drove the van, taught me about his Church of Christ upbringing and went to Australia with me and played for 20,000 Aussies on Easter. What a job! Brennin Hunt, great songwriter, singer and guitar player, started with me when he was all of 19. What a joy to write songs with him on “Bravo God,” and to sing a duet with him on the Christmas CD, “Hope of all the Earth.” He is doing his own thing now, and I know he is going to be a household name one day. Randy Sanders, amazing guitar player, wow, I love to hear him play. He still plays with me some, and it is always a pleasure. He played on the new CD, “Faith in You,” and his solo on “Sit with You,” hurts it is so beautiful.
I don’t have the space to talk about all the musicians that have played for me though the years, but I can tell you that I have been truly blessed and changed by my time with them all.
